Cabin Fever

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Well, it's the middle of January and cabin fever is starting to set in. Chet spends almost everyday in the shop and he needs a break. So, we decided to go on a little photo safari to Succor Creek. For those of you unfamiliar with Succor Creek, you take the highway out of Marsing, toward Jordan Valley, turn west some ways out there and you are actually heading to Owyhee River. You go by Leslie Gulch, where you may have seen some of my photos from years past, and head back north. If you look off to your left, up over those high mountains you would drop right into Lake Owyhee, as the crow flies so to speak. Some weekend we are thinking of taking the motorhome and quad up that way and see if we can actually get through to the lake that way.

The rock formations are so powerful in the canyon. At some points along the ride you are way up above the creek looking down sheer rock faces, while other times the monoliths are towering over you as you ride along beside the creek.

I wasn't sure heading to the canyon if we were going to have a chance to take photos of anything worthwhile, but I was so amazed at the beauty surrounding us in the starkness of winter.

So much life and color in the lichen and mosses growing on and around the rocks.

There is beauty all around us, don't let the drabness of winter days stop you from venturing forth and finding it. Get out there!

Love you all!
