Fourth of July - Even the beach is patriotic

Saturday, July 04, 2009

Today was Morgan's last day with me before returning back to her dad's house. She said she had a great time even though she spent most of the days alone at home while I was working. The good news is that we have plans to hook her up with my friend from work Jane and her daughter Lindsey the next time Morgan is here. Lindsey will be 14 in October so they are only 2 months apart. Morgan is very excited. It was a bummer that Lindsey was sick this past week while Morgan was here otherwise I think I could have used Lindsey to persuade Morgan to hang another week with her ol' ma. Oh well, maybe next time. She is coming back on July 18th.

So Alan and I agreed that Sarasota was the half way point between us and is the 'drop off point' for receiving Morgan, which is a win win for both of us. He has a not so secret desire for Firehouse Subs and I have a not so secret desire to spend most of my time at Siesta Key. With that said, I prepped the beach bag with towels, bucket and shovel from Erica and the girls, sunscreen and the camera and we headed out the door about 10am this morning. I thought this was just going to be a routine trip to the beach like all of the other times, stupid me, totally forgot it was the 4th of July and not only that but Saturday, DUH. Well Morgan and I drove around for almost an hour looking for a parking spot and just when I was ready to have her call her dad to come get her early, bam! Morgan manifested one for us. It wasn't your traditional parking spot, it just happened to be on the grass at the Wachovia bank, everyone is doing it, but it would do...keep this in mind it becomes important later in the day.

Morgan and proceed to the most perfect beach I have ever seen and it all becomes clear. They have sectioned off an area of the beach and are setting up the mortar boxes for fireworks tonight. So we head down where all the people are and spend the next 4 hours playing in the water and the sand. The temperature is about 95-97 degrees and the water is about 88 degrees. Its hot and its summer! I put on sunscreen, later I find out I didn't do such a hot job of it. I have streaks on my legs and I have burnt the front part of my legs from the knee caps down and all I can think of is how will I keep the dogs from jumping on them when I get home?

Morgan and I spend the day playing in the water, she built sand castles and decorated them with shells we found in the ocean and she digs a hole to China. Ok, it was only about 2 1/2 feet deep but I was afraid a little Asian guy was going to pop out if she kept going too much longer. Well the day winds down and it's time to get Morgan back to her dad. We pack our stuff and head to the car. We get to the car and some jerk has boxed us in, parked right behind us diagonally and there is no way to move. All I can think of is, I have to go pee and I am really hungry. So the first thing I think is that there is no point in getting mad cause that won't solve anything. Morgan and I look at each other and decide we are just going to stay positive and cherish the time we have together and hope someone leaves so we can get out. So we joke a bit and we giggle and the time nears where we are to meet Alan and no one has come to save the day. Morgan says "should I call dad or do you want to?" I say "I will call him". So I get on the phone and explain to him our situation and that he will have to come get Morgan from me and I will have to remain with the car till someone comes to let me out. Well about the time I hang up a group of people head towards a white Minivan infront of us. I jump out of the car and ask if they are leaving, they reply yes and the day is saved! Morgan and I are great manifestors!
We zoom out of there and head for the sub shop. Alan buys us lunch we visit for a bit, and they are on their way. I am left to make the hour drive home alone...again. But it's ok cause I know the dogs will be excited to see me and it won't last forever. One day Greg will return, and my family is coming soon to share the experience that is Florida with me. Wow I am wordy!

Just Like I promised Sister, here are the patriotic boys in their Speedos! GOD BLESS FLORIDA!

I love the 4th of July and we had a GREAT ONE, too. However, we didn't have the speedos at least not on anyone over 18 months old. We missed you and Morgan. I enjoyed your account of your fourth and look forward to more adventures from Florida.
Love you guys,
"The Mom"
