To be honest..

I really didn't want to post anything and move the photos of my beloved patio down to the cellar. But, I do have the real thing and can look at it every day. So, I guess it's going to be ok. I am trying hard not to think about it having just been completed and we have already witnessed snow in the valley. The coming winter season can only help to fire my longing for warm summer days and spicey "secret old chinese cowboy" recipe bbq'd ribs on my new fantastic outdoor kitchen grill... Longing, there's a word for ya. Long(ing) winter months of wondering how many layers of clothing can I pile on. Should I wear the heavy long coat and keep my butt warm, or just wear the shorter one and not hassle getting in and out of the car while trying to keep the tails of the long coat out of the door? Do I need the shoes I left at the front door because it was wet and muddy out, or should I retrieve those I managed to keep a bit cleaner by the patio door due to the fact that our lovely new patio covers my trek all the way from the garage. (Godsend!) Already I am sleeping less due to frosty sheets. I don't know what it is, but I just cannot get warm when I go to bed. It's 72 degrees in the house and I swear my sheets are a frosty 42 degrees. No amount of blankets can dissuade the belief that I must don warm fuzzy sockies to keep my precious toes from turning blue in the night. How is it that the bottom third of a bed can be 20 degrees cooler than the top 2 thirds? Doesn't this fly in the face of some sort of physical law?

The only saving grace of winter is of course Christmas! Christmas is such a huge part of our family life. As we speak, I am contemplating just how early one can respectably put up the outdoor lights, so as to catch a couple of warm days in lieu of fighting the howling winds and shreaking rain while trying to keep the spirit. Personally, I have found it a much easier and more pleasant task while having been "in the spirits". There is much to be said about this season. I'm in need of actually working now, so we will continue this conversation at a later date. I urge you all to join in and give some of your own insights and feelings on the subjects of winter and the upcoming Holiday season. I would love to have some stories of holiday happenings that for some particular reason stick in your memories. Perhaps we could call it "Fireside Christmas Musings". I look forward to reading your stories...

Okay, we are totally on the same page about winter. Love Christmas but could live without all else. I ordered a pair of boots and I have been sitting peering out the window waiting for the fed-ex guy. I want my feet warm !!
I do not sleep with socks but I do start out the night with a heating pad which I move up and down my body until I can feel warm enough to sleep. However, we do not keep our house 72. Gene feels the need to have it at about 65. I pile clothes on and he peels his off. I do sit as close to the fireplace as I can get without being burned. I have asked Gene to install a rotisserie so I can warm evenly, but he is resistant to the idea.Maybe one day we will meet in the middle. I'll be back later with Christmas tales.

Since the warranty on my internal thermostat has apparently worn off, wouldn't it be nice to install one that is manually controlled? That way, that instant internal combustion system we gain in mid-life could be put to use warming that bottom third of the bed on demand!

Here come the bone chills. Those cold days that no matter what you do you cannot get warm!
