This picture was taken Sunday on Bogus Basin road by John Post and submitted to the Idaho Statesman.
Well, I didn't talk myself out of it. I planned all day to have Chet drive me up Bogus Basin road to see the light show last night. From all the research I did on the Aurora Borealis yesteday, we were supposed to have the best chance of seeing them last night. Unfortunately, the best time was between 10:00 pm. and 2:00 a.m. We managed to brave the fog, make a few wrong turns in Boise and finally find our way halfway up Bogus Basin Road. You wouldn't believe how many other people had the same idea. It looked like Sunday night skiing was in full force with all the traffic on the twisty windy road. With camera and spotting gear loaded in the car, and snow pants and Sorrels abounding we rose above the blanket of fog which shrouded the valley, found a spot to pull off the road facing north and set up our equipment. All that was left to do was wait for the show. But alas, it was not to be for us. Midnight was my time limit to be out and still be able to get up at 5:00 a.m. So, we packed up all the gear and headed back home. The main point here is, I didn't talk myself out of it. Believe me, I tried. So even though we didn't get to experience the beauty and mystery of the Northern Lights, we went on our grand adventure and we did see some beautiful stars. I will continue to challenge my comfort zone, and I hope you do too.
